Horseradish

Horseradish is famous for its spicy roots. It has a hot biting taste with a hint of sweetness. The plant is a hardy perennial herb that will grow rampantly under most condition except full shade and in wet ground. It is best controlled by growing in a container. Roots will keep in the ground throughout winter and can be harvested as required. They are an excellent source of sulfur. Young leaves can also be eaten raw or cooked, they have a strong flavour so are best used in moderation.
