I think that if you are serious about coffee you really do need to buy an industrial espresso machine.
If you have made your own coffee from beans I would love if you could tell me all the little tricks you used to do do it.

I use a popcorn machine to roast my beans. Has to be one with vents in the side of the cylinder not in the floor of the chamber (if that makes sense)also roast outside or over a sink as a lot of chaff gets spat out. I recommend roasting for 7-10 minutes. once roasted place in a metal container and let it float in some cold water (the beans get very hot and continue to roast after leaving the roaster. I recommend looking into the subject further on Google. Good Luck

Have a look at coffeesnobs.com.au for all the info you will need about roasting your own coffee. if you do dont put them in water after you roast them quickly shuffle them between two collanders as they will act as a heat sink and quickley bring them down to room temp.
