HI, I am renting & wanting to grow 2 Apple trees in tubs out the front of my house. I live in Ipswich Qld & was wondering what is the best choice of tree & how big size pots & what type of soil will I need?

Thankyou,

Kim.

Apple tree - subjective, my pick would be Gala, Sundowner, Red delicious.

Do also google on pollination requirements.

Pot size - square (roots do go round and round), and quite wide and deep (equally). At least 45/50 cm. though you can start off with smaller.

Soil - premium potting mix, buy the best you can afford.

The catch is, they don't like too wet feet - so good drainage but in summer, they would need water top ups, as the qld sun bakes them.

Make sure you get M26 rootstock or smaller! Also act quickly, lots of the bare rooted stock are being sold.
