Gary09 starts with ... Hi Everyone I live in South West Sydney and 13 years ago I planted an Apricot tree in my backyard. This miracle tree flowers early August and starts cropping end October (100KG +).We eat this delicious fruit a couple of weeks before first apricots appear on the market (green and sour). Unfortunately I lost the label and don't know which variety it is. Currently the tree is 6m tall (with pruning) with big, round 12-15cm leaves and medium size fruit with a red blush. I think it's a Glengarry but I’m not sure and would appreciate if someone could identify this variety. The second question I have is about curling leaves (face in), which appear only on the branches facing south-east. No visible signs of any disease or pest activity. The tree is not under water stress and is fertilized normally Thanks

Julie says... Gary, from what you say, it seems very like a Newcastle early, and the fruit look like NE too. Lucky you - they are hard to come by. I lost mine, probably due to old age, and they are very hard to replace. People want larger fruit these days, and don't seem to care about the flavour.Sigh! | About the Author Julie Roleystone WA 4th November 2015 9:06pm #UserID: 154 Posts: 1842 View All Julie's Edible Fruit Trees |

Gary09 says... Hi Julie Thanks for the info.I researched about Newcastle Early and everything seams to match apart from fruit size. My fruit is medium and even large when I do thinning?? I am thinking to get some plum root stock and graft it so I have a back up when the old one dies. I had a stressful weekend in trying to salvage this years crop. After 4 days of rain in Sydney the fruit started rotting quickly and 50% ended up in the bin. There will be plenty of jam though. regards | About the Author Gary09 Hammondville 9th November 2015 4:24pm #UserID: 12656 Posts: 2 View All Gary09's Edible Fruit Trees |
