And it will get worse Sternus.

This is the after-result of the creditcrisis caused by the americans.

Now China is in problems because of less demand from EU and USA and they will order less ironore from Australia.

Also the expensive export products from Australia are out of demand. Here i can buy 1 kg thai avocado's for 60 baht while 1 hass from Oz costs 80.

Same with cherry's or all other fruit imported from Oz.

Thailand is also about to sink into a crisis and Europe is just recovering a bit.

But you aussies still need to grow much more fruit. People i speak who just travelled there didn't see any fruit at all except banana's or oranges/apples. They can also eat those at home.

But you guys shouldn't complaint, you have plenty of cheap meat and seafood which is very expensive in the rest of the world.

Also about helping asylumseekers Oz doesn't loose so much money as the EU. Greece gets thousands of them every day.

Oilprices are very low now so tourists would be able to fly to Oz on a cheap ticket.

Pretty sure we're headed for a recession mid term next year BK. I can (just) remember the 90's recession, but all these teens and people in low 20's will be hit like a tonne of bricks because they've always lived in a boom and don't know what recessions are like.

It's the abbott government which is mostly to blame, they've really been totally incompetent the whole time. They have not passed a single piece of legislation, haven't done anything to improve growth. Basically all they have done is give tax breaks to the top 1%, and have recently started cutting good taxes in order to buy back votes because they are getting destroyed in the polls. They are wrecking the economy.

Yep, Aus is very dependent on China and if they aren't buying due to downturn we're in big trouble. The problem with Australia is that we rely too heavily on mining and tourism. We really need to get on board with new technologies especially renewables because that's where all the new growth will be in the energy sector. That won't happen under this government which is beholden to the mining industry. The service economy (like universities) is a big earner here too, but abbott is trying to deregulate the industry which will jack up prices and make our degrees less attractive to foreign students--they will just start going to canada and elsewhere instead.

Yup most rich Thai don't go to Oz but USA-Canada-Switzerland to study. They still barely speak english when they come back though, even with a master degree in their pocket.

But you Ozzy's have so much unused land, just breed more cows and send us in Asia the beef. Same for fruit, achacha's in Holland cost like 20-25 euro a kg is what i heard, that's insane.

But sure Oz is popular among tourists, it's the price that keeps them away. Maybe lowering the au$ will help a lot.

Also now Europe and USA have a business-agreement both ways, so they will share their markets which is not good for Oz. But actually i don't even know what Europe imports from Oz, kangaroomeat maybe haha.

You guys could also make more tv-programs about nature, we miss Steve or the bushtucker man, barefoot bushman, Rex Hunt. They all promoted Oz overseas.

I don't care for the 20 yo generation, this is life you know, ups and down. I also never saw a crisis before and this one hit me very hard. It's a good lesson though, never trust your friends too much and always save for worse times to come.

But what is a crisis, now Dutch can't go on holiday 3 times a year anymore, well then go 2 times. Or buy a new car every 1-3 years, well a car from 10 years also drives (a japanese one).

I wouldn't blame your prime minister for this crisis, we all know who caused it but when will they pay for all the damage?

Oz has to most beautifull land i've ever seen and its HUGE. Everything is there, all climates, commodity's, nature, super beaches and islands, plenty seafood, it's safe, not dangerous what else could you wish for?

Whatever Abbot did, he didn't let any asylumseekers in and that will pay off huge in the future. Just watch the EU go down from now on.

Also rich Europeans will buy themselves an Ozzy passport, start building houses for them! Only millionaires can afford that but i bet they are all thinking of leaving the EU and Oz will be their best option.

It's the same in Holland and the EU, governments don't do anything at all. Well better do nothing then what i read in the Thai newspapers every day to promote tourism.

Greece is just playing dirty games. They won't cut on government spending no matter what they say.

It's because Germany and France loaned them so much money that they are still in the Eurozone. Now all other EU-members have to pay for that and loan more to Greece, which will never come back and we all know that.

In the past this would have been enough reason to start a new war. Every dutch citizen loaned them 3000 euro by now to give you an idea.

C) Government spending has increased by a factor of 3 under the Abbott government. I'm not sure how they've managed to do this given all the cuts to aged funding, social services and the disabled, but there you go. Aren't the neocons supposed to be about small government?

D) Abbott will be a one term PM, the way Newman was a one term Premier. Nobody comes back from a 15 point deficit this close to the election. Labor are in fact so confident in this that they actually don't really want to win the canning by-election, they just want a swing of around 5%. Losing canning would force the libs to turf Tony and run somebody like Morrison, who has a better shot at the polls (I'd vote turnball all day long if they ran him, but the demented far right won't play ball with that).

E)There is no debt crisis, and never will there be a debt crisis, because Australia is a sovereign country that issues its own fiat. Anyone who can't understand this has no business even thinking about economics and should buy a piggy bank. Contemporary economies and finance can't even function without debt. There was also no 'worst deficit in history'. The Abbott government inherited an economy with a AAA rating. The Howard government in fact inherited more gross, and national debt upon taking office and turned that around rather well. Hockey is basically a clown--he is not fit to sniff costello's jockstrap.

BK I doubt Greece will ever recover within the Euro, and its presence in the Euro isn't good for the Euro. The best thing for Greece is if they just go back to the Drachma and endure a decade or so of pain for some long term gain.

I think Greece can't put its hand out anymore. It's over.

Oh Greece can cut the pensions of the civil servants who get much money every month. But they won't do that.

They can also sell airports or islands or state company's. Or just start paying tax instead of parking the billions in Switzerland.
Or they can work longer like we have to do, untill 68 yo like me. Civil servants get pension when they are 43.

But yes they should leave the euro or be kicked out. Only reason they are still in is because of the Germans who want their money back and they use the eurocountry;s for that.

We should take Australia into the euro and have open business with them. You guys also need a partner.

Just wait, it'll be dejavu in a couple of years.

Civil servants always had another full-time job on the side, while getting paid by the govt as well.

If they get more than 50% of the population to pay their taxes, that would help.

I don't understand the logic behind ordering everything from China.
Environmental rules are good but in Europe we go too far with it and i guess it's the same in Australia.

Yes factory's pollute but they also do that when they're in China.
Now many country's are very happy to see Chinese tourists coming while their own workforce is jobless.

And what happened to the hole in the ozonlayer above Australia? Or the melting icecaps? Or the sour rain?

The latest news is that huge windmill parks don't deliver any green energy at all. Holland just bought loads of them.

You Aussies could start huge fishfarms in sea somewhere and send it to Asia. They pay big money even for salmonheads or crabs who are discarded in Europe.

Or you guys can sell more beef to Indonesia since they won't eat pork there. Or grow timber like teak or other durable wood. Some of those are very expensive. You guys have so much space it's unheard of.

Or you open/build a very nice and huge harbour where millionaires can come with their superyachts. That's what Thailand wants but it's not safe at sea around us here.

Maybe the crisis in Oz should cut some deeper untill they realise the rules have to be changed.
A crisis can also be seen as positiv to get rid of all the useless stuff.

There are many aussie's who live here and escaped Oz because of all the rules. I don't understand them but as long as they are happy it's all good.
