Robyn Cross starts with ... Hi there - I live in Forest Lake Brisbane and these berries are in plentiful supply in the BCC gardens along the main road. Medium size tree. Can you please identify them for me - taste is a bit bland but very syrupy flesh. Smaller berry very tough and white inside. Gorgeous colour - they must be good for something. Also I bought a finger lime about a year ago - it is now around 1m high - never had any flowers - is it still too young? Kind regards Robyn M: 0434 848 228

Pademelon1 says... Hi, Those are a podocarp berry, and I think the species is likely to be Podocarpus elatus. They are edible and can be used in various foods, but they are not especially palatable. The finger lime - I assume it is grafted, being 1m high in a year. They can flower early, but It would not have set fruit. It should start fruiting at about 2-3 years old. Regards, Pade EDIT: I noticed you said the "white berry" was tough and bitter - that is the seed! | About the Author Pademelon1 PADDINGTON,2021,NSW 28th April 2016 9:54am #UserID: 11938 Posts: 138 View All Pademelon1's Edible Fruit Trees |
