Rob19 starts with ... Does anyone have a recommendation for the best white sapote for an average to small Melbourne backyard? I should mention I'm only planning (at this stage) to plant one tree so it needs to be at least somewhat self fertile...unless of course people know of multi grafted trees for sale? A lot of people seem to be talking about "Rainbow" but from a cursory search I can't seem to find it in Australia so I may also add the caveat "the tree needs to be available for purchase". | About the Author Rob19 WEST FOOTSCRAY,3012,VIC 10th April 2014 4:08pm #UserID: 6645 Posts: 52 View All Rob19's Edible Fruit Trees |

Rob19 says... It seems that I've got a bead on a Suebelle, Wilson and a Homestead amongst others. I believe the Seubelle is meant to be quite small but has some issues with pests so may or may not be a good option for a suburban block. I can't find any info on the homestead....but I do like a bit of horticultural gambling. | About the Author Rob19 WEST FOOTSCRAY,3012,VIC 11th April 2014 10:20am #UserID: 6645 Posts: 52 View All Rob19's Edible Fruit Trees |
Jason says... Homestead and Suebelle are Wolly leaf hybrids, I'm pretty sure. It would be risky. Wilson is a Californian selection and supposed to be similar to Pike, I'd go for that one. http://www.cloudforest.com/cafe/forum/60627.html I'd guess you could prune them but some grow upright naturally, some are small and weeping. | About the Author Jason Portland 11th April 2014 11:42am #UserID: 637 Posts: 1217 View All Jason's Edible Fruit Trees |
