BenW starts with ... I was heading through Warrigal a few months ago, and googled to see if there were any interesting nurseries nearby to visit. I got a reference to Botanic Ark, but it was getting a bit late when I went through so I missed out on stopping by. I came across this link from 1990 and it seems the owner (or former owner, as it's from almost 25 years ago)was: 1. a few grapes short of a fruit salad 2. a collecter of any useful plant he could find A lot of what is in the article are now fairy available, but there are no doubt some treasures there that don't appeal to enough people to take off. Has anyone been for a look? http://www.csmonitor.com/1990/0504/pbot.html | About the Author BenW Kinglake West,3757,VIC 6th August 2014 2:24pm #UserID: 5390 Posts: 144 View All BenW's Edible Fruit Trees |
jakfruit etiquette says... I went there about 1990??, very nice guy, interesting stuff, got one of my favorite plants there. Not sure if the nursery is still there, His reasons in the link, to preserve plant biodiversity may seem odd now,(they didn't seem so odd back then), but the need to preserve biodiversity has increased since. | About the Author jakfruit etiquette vic 6th August 2014 5:13pm #UserID: 5133 Posts: 915 View All jakfruit etiquette's Edible Fruit Trees |

BenW says... Thanks Jakfruit. It's definitely still there - they had their sign out but I assumed they were about to close, being 10 to 5 on a Sunday. I'm not knocking his goal by any means - not enough people are collecting and preserving useful plants, especially these days when government has stepped away from anything in that sphere. I just got a bit of a tinfoil hat vibe from the article is all, even though I agree with a lot of what he said :) Sounds like it's worth the drive one weekend. | About the Author BenW Kinglake West,3757,VIC 7th August 2014 12:18pm #UserID: 5390 Posts: 144 View All BenW's Edible Fruit Trees |
