Cara Cara split trunk

    1 responses

Hello,
I planted this tree in November and recently noticed that the trunk has a vertical split (see picture). It is a Cara Cara orange tree. It has grown very little since I planted it but it's companion, a Florida Prime, has also not grown much. Any ideas of what is going on?

Thanks,
Grant

IMHO, it looks like trunk/collar rot - caused by fungal disease - which in turn is probably due to excess moisture from the near by mulch.

you can try some copper spray or some anti-rot but by the looks of the plant, it's really touch and go.

Citrus does not like competition - try not to plant anything too close and try to part the mulch at least 1 to 2 cm from trunk.

good luck.
