Is it possible to keep chestnut tree at about 5-6 meter? I am considering buying marone or Riley, but there is no information I could find in term of taste (sometime I bought tasteless chestnut of unknown var). Do you know Which one could taste better? Thanks

I think you could keep it at 5-6 meters just need to put in the work cutting it back each year after it gets bigger than you want. Assuming you do it in the winter this isn't going to affect the crop.

In relation to taste with a no named variety this is quite common that they won't be any good. A named variety like Marone here:

Has been selectively chosen and bread and especially with chestnuts usually passionate old men/woman have devoted their lives to select and breed a plant that has a taste like this and this is their lasting legacy. It is then up to nurseries to preserve them.

Since you are in Melbourne I would be getting the marone as the Reilly here:

This one is more for people in NSW & QLD who don't get the chill hours you are getting down in Melbourne.

If you are passionate about a certain fruit or Nut always best to pay the extra money to get a grafted named and provent variety. We can send it to melbourne just add it to cart and enter your postcode to find out how much.

Good Luck,
Correy
