Hi All,

I can buy this locally from an organic fruit market for $3.50 for a 20kg bag. I am assuming its just manure, urine and wood shavings mixed together and what ever else they scrape out of the pens.

I have no idea how old it is when I buy it but I usually leave the bags sitting around for 6 months before I use it although I'm not sure if this is necessary?

Last year I just left chunks of it on top of the mulch around my fruit trees through spring and summer.
This year I am thinking of taking a chunk of it, say around the size of a fist and dissolving this into 20L of water then pouring it under the trees. I am hoping this will distribute the nutrients more evenly into our sandy soil and prevent loss of nitrogen but then I'm not sure if this will be too strong for the fruit trees?

There is lots of conflicting information online, some say you must compost it, others say not to compost it or you lose a lot of the nitrogen.

I don't have any space to do a compost pile anyway so its not an option for me. Plus its now spring and I want to start using it on the garden.

Lets not start hashtagging YOLOS just yet Joel.

I wouldn't worry too much about lack of nitrogen but rather too much. Don't overuse it--especially not on garcinia ( don't use it on an achacha if you have one) and annoncea. They do not respond well to hot feeds.

Some years ago I used to run a dozen or so hens in a shed with a concrete floor that I covered with a bedding of about 2-300 mm of wood shavings. Every 6 months or so I would empty shed of the bedding and add it to my garden soil straight away. The poultry manure was by that time dry and well mixed with the shavings and the only effect was positive for my veggie growing.
Another time I used to collect cow manure from the sale yards, bag it in hessian bags and steep it in a drum of water for a few weeks. I diluted the solution and used it as a liquid fertiliser.
So while I haven't answered your question directly, I hope that you can get an idea of what is possible.
Just like diluting urine and using it as fertiliser.

When we bought the house a little over 2 years ago there was a chook shed down the back and a strip of grass where they grazed. All my fruit trees in that strip grow the best now and the soil is a nice dark brown colour. The avocado I planted there went from knee high to well over my head in just one summer.

The soil here is very sandy so I often wonder how much nutrient is retained.
