John Mc how thick should the stem be for air layering the cinnamon?I had to stand on a garden seat to snatch this photo of the new growth. It loves being pruned.

Hi MaryT, I use 'Rooter Pots' for air layering, they come in two sizes, so I bought 2 of each. They work on avocado trees with stems around 10 to 20mm thick, they work best if the stem is vertical.
You can use softdrink bottles as well :-)

I don't know why the photo turned out on its side. Left side should be on top :)

It could take 3 to 6 months to root, MaryT. What medium did you use? (or just soil?) Sphagnum moss, peat moss or cutting mix works too:-)

Brendan I used sphagnum moss after coating the wound with rooting powder. No idea how long it will take but thought I ought to check once in a while in case the moss dried up? I used a creased fold at the side instead of taping it up so it would be easy to open up to check.

They look pretty good for $2 each, Brendan, but it looks harder to use than the old bit of plastic, moss and twist tie that took less than 5 minutes.

I wrapped the plastic with foil; I hope that would discourage birds.

Then you might need some hardware, gimme. :) If I have that problem I would probably try cling wrap covered with soft drink bottle: I suspect the poor performance of rooter pots is due to not being able to squeeze the medium tight around the wound. Just a guess.

Trikus, I have bagged some green seeds forming on my tree as I think they drop off before I get a chance to collect them. How are you germinating them?

Picked several seeds today .. and noticed more unripe ones . Some I planted last month sprouted very fast . Used 5cm tubes and local media . Trees may not produce seeds in a temperate climate MaryT .

Thanks, trikus; that must be it. My tree's been flowering for some time now but I never see a seed. I am trying air layering. On the other hand, the curry leaf tree produces seeds that plant themselves at its feet and I've been potting up seedlings.
