HelenElizabeth starts with ... I am wondering if anyone else has had citrus trees sending out rootstock from above the graft. I have several lemons, oranges and limes that have done this. The new shoots are directly from last years growth, angular shaped and they are covered in thorns. If anyone has any advice I would welcome it. I am just about to cut it all off and wait for the next growth to see what it is like.

jakfruit etiquette says... They are not from the rootstock,(most of the common Citrus rootstocks have trifoliate leaves) they are water shoots, ie vigorous new growth of the fruiting plant. Thats the way a Citrus gets bigger. Not sure I would cut it off as it encourages root gtowth. Unless your plants are going to evenly flush at all branches, they will keep sending watershoots. | About the Author jakfruit etiquette vic 15th March 2015 2:18pm #UserID: 5133 Posts: 915 View All jakfruit etiquette's Edible Fruit Trees |
