Conifers turning brown

Hi all, I have two conifers on my property which are newly planted. I have seen some neighbour's trees looking like this (in pic). Just curious what had happened to them turning all dry and brown....will it be under or over-watering? Some people say it is the former while some say it is the latter...Thanks!

No, there isn't. This canker has not been known to Australia until recent years. All we can do now against it is prevention. Look for cypress species, cultivars or cypress like species more resistant to the disease or choose completely different plants not related to them. In general, plants growing under good conditions with appropriate amount of water and nutrients, drainage, PH etc are less likely to give in to fungal attacks.

This canker is very active up here too...have seen loads of almost "landmark" trees just drop dead...it badly affects a particular type of tree that is has been widely planted here because it is such a tough tree... :-(
