Crazy Weather

It was way wetter than normal in my area for the past 3 years with rain right through the dry season and over 1000mm in Feb. and a nearby cyclone. The garden was stretched from slopping in mud all the time with fungal and root rot problems. The tap turned off after March and it has hardly rained at all with below average rain or none every month and it is a dustbowl.Winter was colder than normal and it is way hotter than usual for the past 6 weeks. Are other areas experiencing such extremes?

my area is also very hot lately. There has been no rain since April and it is so dry that grass areas are dried up and mild red dirt storm has been happening occasionally.

Lucy I suppose Townsville is extra dry.I have fruit trees to plant and have to hold off until the wet season now.I have to go out near Croydon for work next week and I see it is almost 40 degrees every day, and even Mareeba was 37 today. We could be in for a hell of a Summer.

To all the northern forum members.
Hope everything ends well, with not too many fruit losses.

From a cat 2 to a cat 5 in a few hours. Well, that escalated rather quickly... Hope folks between Sarina and Gladstone are okay. Looks like the Brisbane River could be in for another workout if it takes the forecast path.

Once Sir Walter is established i never had to water thru Summer unless a patch starts to look dry and stressed. If you have cockchafer beetle it doesnt affect Sir Walter - I lost my tall fescue one summer to them before i knew what did the damage.

I like it but Christ, is it expensive compared to the other stuff. I still have probably another 40 meters to buy I reckon.

Watering grass in summer? Does not compute. If I don't mow every 5 days my kids can't walk through the yard.

Make plugs from each sheet and let them grow together unless your concerned about erosion - in my 4 x 4mt area put a free cutting in each corner and grew over the old grass suffocating it in a year - looks fantastic.

Same deal, however I have to mow 2 acres at a time.

Can't really plant in the paddock as next time it floods badly anything in the vicinity will wind up in the Sea of Japan.

Considering my back paddock is a slowly descending slope that would make for an interesting game of bowls.
