Finally, we have the power back on, it hasn't been much fun over the past couple of days. What fruit trees that haven't fallen over have a severe lean so I've been busy getting them back to somewhat upright. The Banana leaves look like Palm throngs, I can now pick the Pawpaws from ground level and the bore is gushing water just to make sure the yard stays boggy.

I don't know if we will hear from Brendan for a bit, they copped more wind up his way than we did

glad you managed ok. we only had a few minutes of it.

My hail damage was intense. My trees survived the wind (120km/hr apparently) but both some leaves and bark have been pulverised. I've ripped off damaged leaves. Should I perhaps wrap the damaged bark in grafting tape???? (juvenile trees)

Morning Brad,
I heard about your storm, it sure sounded like a wild one. It could be a good idea to use some grafting tape. We don't get hail here being so close to the coast, a little inland they do occasionally.

A little North of us recorded 205k winds but we got about the same as you did. I have been through several cyclones and this was one of the better ones. The serious winds started about 11pm and lasted until about 4am. Cyclones are much more frightening when they strike at night because you cannot see what's going on, they are very noisy critters to.

We are 1km from the coast and got a tiny bit of hail - first ever recorded here apparently! Brad - how bad is the damage to the bark?

What about using that spray on stuff (black tar based)? I have used on pruning wounds and it works a treat. But you need to get onto it before the wounds get contaminated tho'.

Imagine hitting bark in random spots with a meat tenderizer. Thats exactly how I think it would look :)

I haven't had a chance to take any photos, but there are small blobs where the lighter coloured wood fibres are exposed. We haven't had further rain, but it is quite humid. So hopefully it doesn't invite any nasties into the tree. I imagine some tape would help it callous, but I didn't actually have any on hand.

Hi All,
Well I finally got power back on yesterday (Sat), that's close enough to a week for me. My neighbours 20m high lemon scented gum took out my power big time.

As Wayne said, most fruit trees are leaning over, some are actually touching the ground. Might only lose 2 guava trees & 2 coffee trees. I've straightned up 4 avocado trees, so I hope they survive.

All you can hear up the road are chainsaws going. I'd say it will take me a couple of weeks to clear the mess here.

I'm guessing the wind here was around 180 kph by the amount of trees down. I think the SES are coming out soon to give me a hand :-)

The noise was like someone parked a 747 up my hill and had all engines going flat out. Boy that was scarey. Now I hear there's another cyclone brewing up north :-(
