VLR says... Hey CJ, I got the same idea from my mum who does the same thing as yours. I planted my dragon fruit into hanging baskets (the largest I could find) and put them in my large peppermint tree out the back. I only got them in the last shipment and they've only started growing with the warmer weather. I may need to move them to a sunnier position if they don't do so well. I guess if they get too large then I can just start new plants from cuttings? | About the Author VLR Perth 25th October 2009 4:16pm #UserID: 2329 Posts: 35 View All VLR's Edible Fruit Trees |

Inahdi says... Hi MaryG, to be honest I never actually got around to trying the hanging baskets! We have moved house since I made this post and the new house doesn't have anywhere really suitable for hanging baskets (until I get my much-anticipated new pergola!). I have two growing in terracotta pots which I have trained up the pole of an old clothesline so that they can hang down. Had a few flowers but no fruit, I suspect pollination issues. I would be very interested to hear if anybody else has given it a go. | About the Author 3 15th March 2013 10:48am #UserID: 2533 Posts: 54 View All 3's Edible Fruit Trees |

MaryG says... Hi CJ, well we've made our hanging baskets, just put run of the mill potting mix in and in each one a piece of dragon fruit that we got off one of our friends. Also in each basket, we've put a seedling. It'll probably take a year or so before we know much more, but with everything up here, it's never easy, the bugs and insects are the biggest problem.... so will keep you posted. | About the Author MaryG Dundee, NT 13th April 2013 11:28am #UserID: 7817 Posts: 2 View All MaryG's Edible Fruit Trees |
nicgee says... Hi guys, I have 2 lots of dragon fruit growing in 30lt pots, 4 years old and have produced fruit last 2 years, but it was a hassel rigging up the frame for them to go up and over. Now einstein [ spelling]did this done this. I potted some cuttings already sprouted in 30lt pots and put the pots on top of brick peers about 1.8m high. Theoretically it should work!!!!! | About the Author nicg gwelup 6018 10th December 2014 9:22pm #UserID: 10967 Posts: 11 View All nicg's Edible Fruit Trees |
