Hi Cain,
I've heard of people up Nth Qld planting two avocado trees (type A & Type B), in the one hole about 1 metre apart, and had great success, but two in a pot would be problem I'd say.
Wurtz, type A is a dwarf, but for a B type pollinator, I'm not sure. Maybe a Shepard, Sharwill or Edranol might work if you kept it pruned.
You would need a very large pot.

Yeah, the six or so avos that are dwarf, semi dwarf or are able to be dwarfed by grafting and pruning are all type A

Yeah BJ, out of those 3 type 'B' I mentioned, I'd go for the Shepard. Mine is 5 years old, a spreading sprawling tree only about 2½ m high. But I'm not sure if a Shepard would grow in Perth! :-(

I'd do a full size Hass or Reed and have a type B somewhere else in the yard that you can keep pruning to a small size. You only need a few flowers on the pollinator

I have a Half Wine Barrel that is 700mm wide and 500mm deep, would that be big enough for a dwarf variety?

Thanks,
Cain

Not sure if big enough Cain- maybe someone else here? ...but how are u going to re-pot it when u need to change the soil over? (which u will need to do BTW)

Personally - I always recommend tree sacks that go into a "decorative" container.

U just cut the tree sack open with a stanley knife and lower into the new sack after a "clean up" - so much less root stress.

Hi Amanda,

A tree sack sounds like a good idea. Are they made of anything special?

Thanks,
Cain

They are usually a tough/UV resitant bag Cain, with plenty of drainage holes. I am using one's I ordered from Daleys as I couldn't get any locally. Mine are 35L but need upgrading to a bigger size now...
