Dwarf Black Mulberry

    5 responses

Hi,
I just moved into a new house, the previous owner left behind a dwarf mulberry in a pot (approx 1.5mtres tall) which he purchased from you guys. There is an ants nest in the pot so we are trying to work out what to do. Should we remove the plant, clear out the ants and repot it? Also, if we decide to transplant directly into the ground, is there any rules around how to go about this?
Thanks in advance

When we put some flat rocks in the garden we suddenly had no ants inside, they preferred the rocks to live under, worth a try.

That may work Denise but who can afford to have all those ants desexed so they can't breed up and occupy the ecological niche waiting for them inside?

The rocks were free, so no expense to me. After more than ten years they still live under the rocks and no more venturing into the house. We dont need to use ant poison as we did before. Perhaps we spoke a kind farewell to them-I cant remember. Indeed we respect them and I say there is no loss in trying. We also have intense mixed garden (no lawn) around much of the house so we have a friendly mix of insects.

Thanks guys. The ants we have are not inside the house (yet). They are in the backyard everywhere. I'm happy for them to stay in the yard, but I am trying to remove them out of the actual mulberry pot where a nest has formed. Denise, with the rocks...do you mean put some rocks out nearby and they may relocate out of the pot to live under the rocks?

Yep but you may need to chase them out with some poison. Put the pot in a plastic bag, spray with a friendly insect killer and tie up the bag for a while. You may need to shift the pot if it is in their designated territory. Yes put some flat rocks around according to needs. If they are happy they shouldnt go inside the house. I am speaking from my own personal experience. I get very few ants now, none in the house or greenhouses.
