Dwarf Mulberry tree

Can I prune my mulberry tree to become a dwarf tree? And if so, how do I do it and at what stage of the tree's life? I only bought the young tree 2 weeks ago. Thanks. Magda

Well, no--if you mean that by pruning it that this will alter the growing habits of the tree resulting in a dwarf cv, at the genetic level, then no. That would be lamarckism, or something close. If you mean can you keep it pruned to a small size and have it bear fruit, the answer is yes. Just be aware that mulberry has a pretty invasive root system--don't put it near pipes or power, and make sure you think about where you want it. Once they get established they are close to being unkillable.

Hi could you tell me the variety name of the dwarf mulberry tree that you have, so that I can enquire at the local nursery. I'm not in Australia but in New Zealand. Thanks.

You would probably have to email Daleys to ask about the specifics of the plant.
