Eugenia candolleana after 18 months

    6 responses

My candolleana blooms after 18 months.

I put it in full sun when it was 1 year old. Others who are not in full sun don't bloom yet.

Our sun is very strong, even my mangotree's in pots don't like it.

Is this a record?

Mike you will be swimming in them soon with 3 tree's in full soil.

Mine didn't set fruit yet so we'll see what happens. They are same size as yours but very bushy.

I will put a neonitida in full sun as well, they grow fast here.

The jaboticaba's have some problem, the biggest one even died. I guess overwatering is the problem because nothing has changed for them last months.

I will go for more records, living in the warmest city of the world should have some advantage.

My candolleana's are 30 months old now, they all bloom all the time but never set fruit.

Maybe it's too warm at my location. They 'll loose the prime spot soon.

How about yours Mike? Any fruit yet?

I have my first candoleana-fruit on the tree now...i saw 2 more pollinated flowers as well...i tried hand pollinating 2 days ago but we had a lot of rain.

I moved the tree to a half-sun position, fed it ironsulfate and special pyro fertilizer plus loads and loads of water. (3 times a day 10 litre).

I hope to see loads of them soon, have plenty blossoms right now.

Most candolleana's had worms inside from fruitfly i guess. I even grew them in netbags.

And the ones i could eat were not very sweet, a real cherry is much better.

I hope they improve soon, i don't want to grow them like this.

Is yellow grumichama better than candolleana?
