Manfred says... Thorniness, seediness and excess vigour are characteristic of seedling citrus. Get a seedling suitable for your area and the level of care you are willing to provide, and you will be satisfied with the result. Don't buy a grafted or budded plant, as it will be less thorny and probably on dwarfing or semi-dwarfing rootstock. Grapefruit seedlings grow really fast in suitable conditions and have vicious thorns but won't like western Sydney frosts. (Any frost at all.) Oranges or lemons are more forgiving. Which do you prefer? | About the Author Manfred Wamboin 23rd November 2016 7:35pm #UserID: 9565 Posts: 243 View All Manfred's Edible Fruit Trees |

Norbert says... Thank you for your answer Manfred. Would an older than seedling grapefruit tolerate frosts? Could I start a grapefruit seedling in a pot? Keeping it outside in the warmer weather, inside in the cooler weather. I don't actually want to eat the fruit myself. Would a Chinotto type orange grow quickly? | About the Author Norbert DOONSIDE,2767,NSW 24th November 2016 9:28am #UserID: 15010 Posts: 9 View All Norbert's Edible Fruit Trees |
