finger lime

    2 responses

we have a potted finger lime about 12 mths old. We gave it its first prune and it seems that the tree has started to sprout branches in the canopy that seem to be more aligned with suckers; the growth is rubbery with outsized rubbery thorns, leaves and the stem is flat and rubbery. Is this normal? Or should I prune them out.

It is probably what is called a water sprout. Though mostly they start from the lower half of the tree.Quite common with vigorous trees such as avocadoes and citrus. If it is right up against the main stem it could be chopped out, but otherwise hard to say without seeing it.

Do they sound like what d1 says, or are they strange looking, even fascinating or artistic ? Sometimes the tip curves back down ? or looks like 2 shoots stuck together? If they dont look like they will ever turn into a normal branch, cut them out.
