Fireball Apricot

Hi all,

Was checking out my local Bunnings garden section recently and came across a "Fireball" apricot and a plumcot with plantnet labels. When I checked out the plantnet website I couldn't find info on either of these trees. Just wondering if anybody can share any information, particularly the chill requirements and whether you would recommend?! Thanks in advance

Thanks Jimmy, don't suppose you know whether these "solar" series apricots are low chill? The name sounds hot and summery but you never know! The website had limited info.

Not really sure, but bred in SA, so would be no higher than medium chill.

Apricot - Fireball

"A traditional tasting mid season apricot with deep orange coloured skin and very sweet flesh. Suitable for temperate regions with 450 hours chilling. Partially self pollinating but will benefit from pollination with other apricots."

2010, 3/7/10 9.07pm (vague reference, not my work)

Hey i work at a prominant garden centre as a horticulturist and have had so many requests for this. I've never had it myself but have heard really good things about it. I would sugest using a cross pollinator as indicated in the above text.As long as they flower at the same time they can pollinate eachother. Also i personally believe if u use organic based fertiliser the taste of any fruit will be superior - the synthetic crap doesn't cut it. Better than shop bought but still not quite the same. Also to keep them strong use Seasol (Berocca for plants).Hope I havn't bored u or told u wot u know already. good luck

can you grow Apricots from cuttings?

i know you can with peaches

In a town in SW WA called Boyanup there are many seedling apricots of very good quality. On their own roots they grow into big trees.

..yes seems you can
