My cool banana is not cool anymore, all leaves are brown and drooping. Just a few days ago, they looked so green!!
My giant lau lau and passionfruit also were badly damaged. Luckily my avocados are ok. Should have trusted Daley that giant lau lau is very sensitive to frost :(
How did your trees cope with the coldest night in 16 years?

Thithi - did you go outside on Saturday morning with a thermometer? Helps you find the cold and warm spots in your garden - eg: Roof of my car was minus5.9c and around my Avos and Mangos was hovering at O to minus 0.05c so finding your best spots are important - my back metal fence was covered in ice too but was above zero around Black Sapote which all got thru great - also been trying frost cloth wrapped around some plants i got from Bunnys - seemed to work on Dragon Fruit as couldnt be bothered bringing red inside as getting too big - white DF handles cold quite well - some blisters formed on red

Hi mark, i have a cooking thermometer. I feel silly asking the next question. How do I measure the outside temp? should I let the thermometer touch the plants, the metal fence or stick it into the ground or the air surround the tree only?

Hi Thithi - thats about what you do with a thermometer - put end where you want to test - no rocket science but lets you know your hot and cold spots - i use a digital cooking thermometer that goes negative as well (from good cooking shops like at werribee plaza)- even useful testing in summer - on those hot days my backyard patio area (concrete base) was approaching 45c+ (Hotttttt)
One big tip take a photo of your results or take notes - handy for those EXTREMES

Markmelb, was the frost cloth you bought called 'fleece'? It's in the online catalogue, but my nearest Bunnings store didn't have it. I want some for other purposes.

Julie - was just called frost cloth - near all the shade sails etc - is thin and looks like cotton see thru fibreglass cloth about a metre wide by about 10mt long from memory not sure how good it works yet stops frost from settling maybe? - Id like to know where to get that that Exclusion cloth like at Daleys and Picones place - want to make a windbreak from our damaging north winds that whip around the house :)

Thanks Mark, I'll have a look in the other Bunnings further away. A guy who works there said not every store has the same stock.
