my neighbor has a 2 year old dwarf red shahtoot mulberry purchased from you. It is less than a meter high with fruit about 50mm plus long. Every year at this time the fruit begins to drib off. Ground has good drainage, plenty of compost, lush with plenty of leaves. Can you help with his problem please.

Could've be something to do with hormone levels. My shahtoot dropped all its fruit for the first three years. This is not true of the dwarf black, which will produce and bear fruit pretty much immediately.

graeme & jenny, first you have come to the forum and not the nursery. Here is where we backyard growers 'talk' to each other. To contact the nursery, click 'Contact' on top left of this page or click:

I suggest you call them.

Try water. Young trees are prone to dropping their fruit before ripe, if the roots dry out at any stage. Seems to be more an issue with Morus macroura.

Won't work boris, that's the first thing I tried when this happened to mine. I have never experienced this with any other variety other than shahtoot. I have four different cvs and they all behave identically when fruiting apart from shahtoot. It's the nature of the beast.
