fruit trees not producing (forum)

I have 3 pear trees that are growing wild behind my house. 2 of the 3 get good sun. They are about 15-20ft tall. They have never produced until the year before last. I got minimal fruit production. Last year nothing. Is there any fertilizer or anything I can do this spring to produce more plentiful fruit? I have an apple tree that is only about 8ft tall in the same area and it produces a ton of apples. I am very ignorant in the subject and don't know who to ask. Thanks.

You say the pear trees are 'wild'. It is highly likely that these are self-sown seedlings which may never produce fruit.Nearly all commercial varieties of fruit are usually grafted to ensure friut prduction.

Or, they could be trees in which the original stock has taken over - they have lost their graft. I've seen this happen, and they revert to the wild.

They also sound way too tall.I would try pruning them back this winter, then see what happens. I know how hard it is to 'let go' of plants which are not producing, but a tree which doesn't fruit is a waste of fertiliser and water.

Good luck!
