A.C says... I give all my trees a dose of Nutrilife Platform when planting them which gives them strong growth. When I planted the R2E2 mango I watered in 3 9L watering cans.I put in a level tablespoon in the can then filled it with water, then watered root zone.I watered in a black sapote and custard apple tree in this way. They all have strong growth now.The other thing is the soil mix has to be right to get good results.Mangoes are a bit salt sensitive,Adelaide water is bad for this.Watch for browning of leaves along the edges. The other thing is use low salt residue fertiliser like Nitrophoska.Mangoes also like iron.Give it some chelated iron during the growing months. If you want a cheap way put a few pieces of scrap mild steel in a bucket of water soak for 4 weeks till water goes orange.Put 2L of this orange water in a 9L an and fill the rest with water and water your mango tree with this.As for spraying watch for flowering ,you may have to spray with Kocide blue to control Anthracnose as tree comes in to flower.Mangoes are very prone to this disease especially in humid areas. | About the Author AC1 Adelaide S.A. 15th March 2014 8:49pm #UserID: 8055 Posts: 103 View All AC1's Edible Fruit Trees |

A.C says... It probably would be better to plant the Bowen/Kensington Pride in Adelaide.Try to find a spot near concrete/bitumen surfaces that store heat and radiate it out at night.Very important to stop frost damage. Ive got mine in the front yard (near bitumen road)but direct sun after 1pm in summer in Adelaide is very strong ,you will have to shade plant. If you find a spot where it will get morning sun and no afternoon sun will be the best. As for soil I used organic potting mix which I added 20% more washed filling sand both materials from Jefferies Garden soils, and a little manure ie Chicken/Cow put all into a predug hole 1x1m x 400mm deep, but remember the finished height of potting mix will be approx 100 mm above ground, (raised mound). It would be a good idea to put support stakes/ shadecloth around and overtop of plant straight after planting. When watering create a watering ring around trunk approx 300mm away from trunk & fill this ring when watering,it forces plant to grow by searching for the water. I would use Nutrilife Platform when planting this tree out.You can get that (200gm packet) at Biotech Organics at Virginia S.A | About the Author AC1 Adelaide 16th March 2014 5:52pm #UserID: 8055 Posts: 103 View All AC1's Edible Fruit Trees |
