brad16 says... A lilly pilly's root system will be at least as wide as the tree is tall. They seek water vigorously. For a lilly pilly to be over 6 metres tall, and your house only 5 metres away, I would have great concerns about your plumbing. Once the roots invade the plumbing, you will have an ongoing headache that will make the next door's bamboo look like paradise. Without knowing particular trees to suggest, I would recommend planting a row of quick growing trees (to 20m) without invasive roots (no suggestions sorry), interplanted with broadleaved shrubs and trees to fill in the gaps under their "canopy". This should get the height you're after and form a visual barrier, but also create a root barrier for the bamboo with less danger to your plumbing. Sorry I couldn't tell you "what to plant", but I think for the size of your hedge, lilly pilly's may pose too much of a concern to your house at that proximity. I'm not a gardening or plant expert, but I do have a variety of lilly pillies (syzygiums) and also a stand of bamboo (which I despise, as much as the lantana and madeira vine). The lilly pillys do contain the bamboo somewhat, but there is no way I'd have any plumbing that close to a stand of lilly pillies that size, especially septic. | About the Author brad16 GOROKAN,2263,NSW 21st September 2016 1:06pm #UserID: 14079 Posts: 175 View All brad16's Edible Fruit Trees |
