Help - Michelia Alba drops leaves

    2 responses

Symes starts with ...
I bought a very young Michelia Alba from this site in mid Oct. I planted it in pot with premium soil, put it in full sun area and water it every morning. Leaves turn yellow and keep dropping off, I also found some white dots on branches. Can someone help and tell me how to take care of it?

Hi Symes,

It's hard to say but I suggest it may be overwatering? Take the pot off the dish and see if it's wet underneath before you water again. Also is the soil on the top say, 10cm of the pot perpetually wet? Try lifting the pot off the ground (with bricks, whatever) to help drainage.

Also, was the plant root bound when you repotted it and did you tease out the roots?

For the 'white dots' I suggest you try spraying with homemade white oil: 5ml (1 teaspoon) vegetable oil to 500ml water, add a couple of drops of dishwashing liquid to disperse the oil, shake well before use.

While it's recovering I suggest you remove it from full sun; some morning sun is fine. Good luck.
