How big will a dwarf citrus grow in an 80cm barrel

    3 responses

I have some half wine barrels, 80cm wide by 45cm high. I want to plant citrus, a Lemonade and a Blood Orange. How big would the dwarf versions grow in these size containers?

Thanks,
Cain

Hi Jimmy,

Do you have any photos you can post? I am looking around to see whether I can plant a normal citrus in the pot or if it needs to be a dwarf, but am interested to see how the dwarf varieties grow.

Thanks,
Cain

Hi Cain,

I have a Dwarf Meyer Lemon in a wine barrel that is several years old. It's probably around a metre tall.

I also tried to grow an Imperial Mandarin in a much larger tub. It didn't do that well (perhaps not enough sun). It remained compact but the fruit was not much larger than a cumquat.

Come to think of it I gave the tree to my inlaws and they planted it in the ground but in a shaded position. It still isn't doing well.
