My Ice cream tree has fruited for the first time, and I can not find any information on when they are ready to be picked the pods are about about 18cm long, green velvet turning a slight broun, very fat after the rain here. Any information would be appreciated, as people around my area have never heard of them. Thank You.

Hey Linda.
Everything you mentioned sounds like a ripe fruit to me. I've picked one's smaller than that and they were OK. It's only the pith between the seeds you want. Why not pick one and try it? BTW, how long did your tree take to fruit?

Hi John, I planted this tree 7 years ago, never thought it would give me any fruit but it has 10 pods of different sizes on it and more flowers comming. Will try one tonight and see and maybe a photo soon. Thank you.

When it is nice and fat, go for it. I have a big one on the side of my house and have to cut it back this weekend as the fruit/pods are ripe and I dont want them in my gutters. I'll get around 200 pods by trimming it back 15%.
