Identify this bug

Hi everyone!

I have these bugs visiting some of my pots recently. They look like tiny mozzies but they definitely are not. Blackish and they do fly (darting about). They open and close their wings in a horizontal manner frequently while they are on the potting mixes.

I am not sure what they are attracted to in the pots as they do not seem to be feeding on the plants.

Could it be anything in the mix that they are attracted to? I use premium potting mixes and feed my potted trees and herbs with fish emulsion and seasol on a regular basis.

Tried my best snapping photos of them but they are really really small.

Would appreciate any help.

Thanks

It's hard to say for sure but I'd say they're a type of Fungus Gnat.

Hi AuOrey,
SPALANGIA WASP. Good guys... so don't kill them off. They'll be gone as quickly as they arrived. They're either just laying eggs in other fly larvae that are in your potting mix or they've just hatched out of former larvae that were in your mix. Isn't nature brilliant???

Thanks Dekka n Au0rey - have just noticed a bug that looks exactly the same but a bit bigger in my garden!
Personally - every bug in my garden is innocent until proven guilty! :)

I have a feeling they are gnats as they do not look like wasps.
