IUCN statement global threat from neonic pesticides

    4 responses

Of interest to a few of us gardeners-

Conclusions of a new meta-analysis of the systemic pesticides neonicotinoids and fipronil (neonics) confirm that they are causing significant damage to a wide range of beneficial invertebrate species.

“Far from protecting food production the use of neonics is threatening the very infrastructure which enables it, imperilling the pollinators, habitat engineers and natural pest controllers at the heart of a functioning ecosystem”

This is of interest to everyone! We all depend on bees to pollinate our food crops.

I have signed several petitions protesting the use of neonicotinoids.

Yes Julie,

This is high level independent support, as the global evidence is now very strong.

You know when all this is going to stop?

When everybody takes their money, and dumps it in the ocean.

Only fools think they can change the world.

sternus, not quite sure what you mean. That petitions aren't effective? I have signed a lot of petitions lately that have had a positive result.

One was re saving the Great Barrier reef, the other was re logging in Tas forests. Both defeated after a huge protest.

So I keep on trying to change the world - it costs nothing.
