health101orgarticles1 says... Exactly. Every fruit that I have tasted from trees on roadsides have been too acidic and lacking the taste of my home grown seedling from Daleys. It might not be the seed quality/genetics but just be because of my better growing conditions, eg mulch, fish waste, and so, soil nutrients and soil quality, and maybe extra ground moisture from the mulch etc. | About the Author health101orgarticles1 BANKSTOWN,2200,NSW 14th March 2014 11:14am #UserID: 316 Posts: 159 View All health101orgarticles1's Edible Fruit Trees |

Jason says... Durian is gross but its the kind of gross that might turn magical if you were dedicated to keep on eating it. I used to regularly attempt durian until it stopped being sold in Safeway some years ago. Never did get to the point I'd bring able to finish a segment. Could be racial taste differences, they say Malaysians who love durian can't deal with blue cheese. But to the white man blue cheese tastes fine/good. I can eat a kilo of blue cheese in quick time :p | About the Author Jason Portland 15th March 2014 12:53am #UserID: 637 Posts: 1217 View All Jason's Edible Fruit Trees |
allybanana says... Interesting Jason i did what you did kept trying durian even though it was gross but now i love it. I froze it and cut of a sliver frozen every now again. that was a year ago i would like another now, but Sydney or Melb is so far away. There are certain flavors that are hard to get used to though there are not just punjent but tast poisnes such as unripe olives unripe figs or davidson plumb i hope jelly palm is not one of thoughs. Becuse i have already put five years into this little knee high palm. | About the Author allybanana EDEN, NSW 15th March 2014 1:55am #UserID: 4544 Posts: 372 View All allybanana's Edible Fruit Trees |
Jason says... Allybanana, I was confident I'd like durian sooner or later. Still am but I'd need more of it. Freezing would have been smarter than throwing 99% of it out each time :). I have a jelly palm also but palms grow so badly for me I doubt it'll ever fruit anyway. The are more edible than an unripe fig by a long way!, but not I always use the common cherry plum as an example fruit in these cases. Cherry plums will grow wild here and give a ton of decent fruit, especially the yellow species yet aren't seen by most people as worth growing. So I always like to see a fruit being better tasting or cropping than cherry plum if its going to be worth growing | About the Author Jason Portland 15th March 2014 12:12pm #UserID: 637 Posts: 1217 View All Jason's Edible Fruit Trees |
