what would be eating the leaves and shoots off my recetly planted tahitian lime tree? I did spray it with an insectacide but did not help. Could it be a possum? What can I do it now has no leaves left.

Sheila have you had a look for caterpillars? You might have the citrus caterpillar which sometimes hides under the leaves. And yes, possums will eat the leaves, especially the top tender ones. Its hard to keep possums away once they have found a food source. Physical protection is about the only way, like a cover or net at night. You should be able to control insect pests on your lime tree without using insecticide. Most bugs or caterpillars can be squashed and scale can be sprayed with white oil. Boring insects like citrus gall wasp can be controlled by pruning.

Hi Sheila, at one stage when my citrus plants were very young, slugs and grasshoppers used to defoliate mine. Snail pellets and fine mesh (old curtain) worked well. If it is possums, there are repellents you can buy at any hardware store. Covering with some fine mesh could help too. (Secure base so critters don't go under and up.)
