Low chill pluots in Bangkok

    5 responses

Bangkok starts with ...
A vendor claims he had fruit on his Geo pride pluot tree in bangkok where it never gets under 14-15 celcius. And even that is only maximum a week a year. Mostly only a few nights and in daytime it's around 25 or more.

He says pluots can adapt to ultra tropical climate and will still fruit.

What do you think of that? I don't know what to think. Husky dogs also adapt to our climate, my neighbours all have them and they look healthy and happy.

FYI: Bangkok is 95% of the year above 30 celcius in daytime. At night above 25 celcius 95% of the time.

I think the vendor speaks with a forked tongue. They will never grow in Bangkok. Stick with dapple dandies brought in from a temperate climate I say.

Well i asked for a picture but then he said the geo pride flowered but didn't set fruit because it needs a pollinator.

The other pluots he has also flower but not at the same time.

It's not hard to get one to flower but the problem is they need to flower together.

Well at least they can flower here...although i haven't seen a picture of it.

Dapple Dandy is also for sale, do they fruit in N-Queensland?

I now have Dapple Dandy, Flavour King, Splash and Geo Pride....traded for another tree. I like experiments and will make a cocktailtree out of them.

Many Thai don't let their dogs come into the house, they stay outside and have a fan if they're lucky. They also don't walk them. In the house they all have very slippery tiles.

Huskies like to eat icecubes here, i sometimes walked one for another foreigner who's too lazy for that but he liked to jump in the lake and didn't listen at all.

You're lucky if you can grow cherry's and pluots and peaches. Continuous heat isn't so relaxed but even i get adapted to it. When it was 20 celsius i really felt cold, then even all straydogs wear tshirts.

I planted 4 pluots together in a 100Litre pot in full sun now. Let's see what happens.
