are you attempting to train it to grow into the trellis /fence shape?
If so, do you want it to fruit as normal or not?

I would like to train a few to grow as a screen along our fence. I would still like it to fruit though.

Nicole, lychee trees are extremely slow growing and take forever to get to head height. By then they would probably be twice as wide as they are tall. I would say that you could probably train them to a certain extent but would you be happy with the end result.
