Linton starts with ... Maihuenia poeppigii - to pot or not to pot? I recently got this unusual fruiting species of cactus which seems to be slightly big for the rather small 2 inch pot it is growing in as in the first 2 pictures. The supplier suggested to leaving it until next Spring to repot it but that seems a bit long to me so would like another opinion considering that I know next to nothing about growing succulents. For those not familiar with Maihuenia poeppigii, contrary to most other cacti species, it tolerates wet and cold conditions down to minus 15 degrees and can grow in snow in the mountains of Chile. It spreads like a mat over bare rocks from which protrude large edible fruits. Maihuenia poeppigii is said to grow fast and unlike most other cacti, it can start producing fruit in just 2 or 3 years, hence my eagerness to transfer it to a larger pot. Thank you.
