echinopora says... How old/large is your tree? Sometimes trees will be mature, but not have the roots/leaves to carry fruit. Particularly large fruited species or grafted trees. I have a grafted mamey that has flowered for 3 years and drops the fruit young, but it would be hard to imagine it not snapping in half tryingbto carry a full sized fruit. | About the Author terranora 1st January 2016 5:16am #UserID: 10023 Posts: View All 's Edible Fruit Trees |

Rosie 53 says... I had forgotten that I had asked this question. As I am a novice on this forum and not really sure how it works (took me a while to figure out how to get to here) bear with me while I attempt to respond to everyone. ACTUALLY I got the name wrong, yes I do have a Mame Sapote but I was meaning to ask about the Canistel (Pouteria campechiana). Bought at the markets in Bellingen at least 7 years ago, not grafted as far as I know. About 12 foot tall now. Very slow growing especially compared to the Black Sapote. Flowering now & some flowers look different this year. 3rd year of flowering. Very sweet smelling but no bees. Large ants seem to be the pollinators. Be interested to hear if anyone else has had fruit from their Canistel tree | About the Author Rosie 53 MACKSVILLE,2447,NSW 29th January 2016 10:14pm #UserID: 12982 Posts: 3 View All Rosie 53's Edible Fruit Trees |
