David I am chasing seeds of some of the elite mammeas.Even though they are permitted seeds the stormtroopers may confiscate them at the border.

Hi Mike, yowsers, i must be physic, i read long time ago that they can either be male, female of hermaphrodite. I think i recall telling you ages ago i bought one marcotted tree from Limberlost some 5 yrs ago maybe more .It was a robust tree of good size when it arrived down here, marcotted by Mike Fabian no less(those were the days). However the canine of the day used to like weeing on it so my quess is it succumbed to excess nitrogen. Approx 17yrs ago one of the local fruit shops down here was selling the fruit under the name of south american sapote never seen it since, good luck . David

David, I'm sure you know, but the South American Sapote usually refers to Matissia. They can be self fertile. There is one in the Cooktown BG that fruits lots, but the fruit is small, like a good sized sapodilla. Good Florida selections look great and rockmelon size with reportedly delicious taste. Hopefully a few of these types will make it here someday.

Trikus Hi, can you possibly tell me if you know the grower of the mammea, been trying for ages to lay my hands on another since the dog watered the last one and killed it(dog is now gone to the great kennel in the sky). The one i had was a marcot from Limberlost some years ago.

Thanks Trikus, just thinking if you know of a male and female tree ,just realised that the guy with the female tree is getting all the fruit from the pollen off the male tree. Oh the humanity of it all.

Hey David, I too am interested in finding Mammea Americana, I am disappointed however to find any resources on the plant within Australia besides an account of propagation in NSW a long time ago by the RFC. Do you have any updated news on this plant?
