Nam Doc Mai vs Irwin for cooler climates

    0 responses

Figbarron starts with ...
Hie all i am in the south eastern suburbs in Melbourne and i have a 21 month old Kensington Pride seedling growing in a pot at the moment (about to flush new growth) and i would like another tree to accompany it.

I don't get frost in my yard thanks to a nice microclimate set up by the many trees and houses surrounding me. I have some frost sensitive plants that have been thriving and pushing new growth over the winter (tamarilo and pepino bush).

The question that i have is which varieties will set fruit well in Melbourne? I missed out on the Grafted R2E2s that are suited to cooler climates than other mangoes according to daleys.

So that leaves Nam doc mai and Irwin. Both flower at the same time. Do i just get which ever comes first on sale? Kind regards. F.B
