Hi Kert,
Are you able to be more specific. My husband says blueberries are awful - but I adore them - so obviously taste can be a bit subjective. I've read some places that Natal taste like raspberry (yum) or cranberry (Ok) but other sites say they taste like latex. I'm suspecting that they might be more 'latex' than 'fruit' because I would expect a tough fruiting plant to be more popular if it was generally delicious but I'd appreciate a bit more first-hand guidance as to the flavour if you can assist.

Yes, it's the latex . Any fruit that carries a warning that cooking it will result in difficult to remove latex on the pot ,has a problem.

Thanks Kert,
Looks like I might give it a miss. It sounds like it is better for a security screen than for the cooking pot. =(

Apparently there is some variation in size and quality and palatability. Get cuttings off a good plant or try growing a bunch of seedlings. The ideal place is good drainage and heaps of sunshine

I nominate the Natal Plum as the"great disappointment" ; beautiful to behold and truly awful to eat. Plus you need to clean off the congealed sap!

You know it's an ornamental plant when they say it's best for jams and jellies.

Yup, when they say something is good for jams and jellies- run! . A bit like when your mother tries to line up a girl for you and says she has a "nice personality."
