jo starts with ... Does anyone knows what are the pests that attack bananas on the branch? I am not sure whether the fruit flies will attack them and I have wrapped my two bunches of bananas with home-made draw-string netting/mesh bags in order to be on the safe side and get to eat maggot-free bananas later.

jo says... Hi Brendan, Wow, so much use from the banana plant! I wonder how one goes about weaving baskets out of the trunk! (ha ha). (Good for garden use) Oh, unfortunately, I have discarded the bell which i chopped off! Next time, I will remember. I thought that the small "fingers" have sap and may be unsavoury to the palate. For the salads, does one eat them raw? | About the Author jo kingsford, nsw 30th January 2012 10:53am #UserID: 0 Posts: |

Brendan says... Hi jo, here's 1 recipe I use for banana bell salad. Remove the tough outer leaves / fingers first. http://www.sbs.com.au/food/recipe/384/Banana_bell_salad/search/true I imagine there's hundreds of recipes? I do prefer the fried in butter recipe:-) | About the Author Brendan Mackay, Q 31st January 2012 11:21am #UserID: 1947 Posts: |
