Nelle starts with ... We have property inland from Warwick and I would like to establish some nut trees there before we build (years down the track). I know I can grow Olives, but would like to grow macadamia, pecan, walnut, maybe chestnut and hazelnut also. We get frosts in winter, winds, dry heat in summer, no ground water but irrigation can be done, also there is a mix of rich black soil (flats) and this thick bulldust soil that turns pug when wet (hill). The soil can be improved and is rich in nutrient. My question is does anyone have any info regarding which nut is best and any growing tips? PS Growing citrus is not a problem there at all. No bugs attack the trees, only cockatoos! | About the Author Nelle Alstonville 11th November 2014 4:23pm #UserID: 10821 Posts: 1 View All Nelle's Edible Fruit Trees |
Lissa says... Take a look at the Saba Nut tree Nelle. Relative of the Baobab with a similar swollen base to the trunk. Hardy and very productive (I'm told, mine is still a baby). A search online should bring up some suppliers.
