I'm interested in growing a papaya to use the green fruit in Asian Salads. I have seen them successfully growing around Sydney. Does anyone know which variety would be best for use in Salads?

I understand they are all as good as one another for using green. I grow both yellow and red and use them both green. Can't taste any difference myself.

I have heard from a filipino that there are some strains growing there that are better than others for using green.

No doubt your Phillipino friend would be correct about that Denise, they use them in cooking a lot more than Australians who are just catching on to the idea that they are good to eat green.
Why not ask the friend the question and post the answer here for all to share?

My friend doesnt remember. Our local shop has round to pear shaped green papaya, about 1 to 2 lbs but I have seen on tv some asians grating a long papaya. You would probably find most are usable grated green but would need to do trial and error to find the best.

Currently eating the long papaya grated for salads (tree at work fell down during a storm)but here at home I grow the round ones. Honestly can't tell the difference between the two.
