Yoda on DMT says...
That is a papaya. A pawpaw is a different species--asimina triloba.

I suppose it depends on where you come from. Mine was bought as a red mountain paw paw. In Australia, paw paws are paw paws and will probably always be paw paws.
I could argue that your Asimina triloba is actually called a wild banana, prairie banana, Indiana banana, Hoosier banana, West Virginia banana, Kansas banana, Kentucky banana, Michigan banana, Missouri banana, the poor man’s banana, Ozark banana, and banango.
It's the botanical names that are arguable, not the common names.

granted, the etymology of the term 'pawpaw' is culturally bound. Obviously.

However, the material reality of the actual species does not change irrespective of this.

That is a papaya. Carica Papaya. It is as about as related to Asmina Triloba as monkeys are, which is to say, not at all.

Your 'red mountain pawpaw' is a standard Hawaiian solo type. It is one of the most common in Australia and the main commercial type. Calling that papaya 'red mountain' is like calling a plumber subterranean irrigation specialist. Whoever sold it to you under that grandiloquent title is a jerkoff. Don't buy from that person again.

I grow 14 different varieties of papaya. If I tell you it's a papaya, you can believe it.

14 different Paw Paws! Wow! So if I put 15 varieties in the ground, then I can call it a Paw Paw and be more right than you! 😄

Consider this; you say it's called papaya because it's botanical name is Carica papaya?
Then from now on I will call your American Paw Paw, Triloba, yes?

if you can get the name changed to Asimina pawpaw, then maybe I will concede to your all-knowledgableness...cough cough. I swear that's a word!

I'm sorry Fay, that's not how arithmetic works, no. I only pointed out that I have a bunch of papaya and can ID them pretty well.

Yours is a H.Solo. Its actually quite good.

You can call Asiminia Asimina, and papaya papaya.

Carl the secret to deal with that is to cut them to about 8ft high. Bats don't like feeding down that low and will almost always leave them alone.

They are called bats, megabats, fruit bats and flying foxes – it's all the same animal.

My mulberries sometimes indicate the presence of mice.

Hey Yoda, arithmetic has nothing to do with this discussion so it doesn't matter if it works or not. You pulled out numbers to suit yourself; so did I...and it worked too well for me huh? And yes, I can call Asimina, Asimina and I can call Paw Paw by its name given by most Australians.
But Yoda, we have a problem.... Coles is sitting on the fence! They can't decide if it's Paw Paw or papaya.

I love the name, flying fox magnet.... But Carl, what would I call my mulberries then?

And Yoda, my pointy-eared friend, Flying foxes have eaten my persimmons two feet from the ground😁

Thank you Ivepeters😄

How do your mulberries indicate the presence of mice? Mine are always covered in flying fox poop and spew.

Last year I had a carpet snake make its way into our lounge room via the paw paw tree.

Had papayas myself, having them at 7 foot high didn't help, pulled out to stop ff migrating to my mangoes later on.

Have my mulberries under netting, half eaten mulberries are a good indicator of little mouths.

Netted the side of my house, from gutter to fence, 10m x 6m. Stopped ff's eating my guavas as well as others.

Ebay.er.beware.
30% shade cloth 7x10 was $76.
Used normal bird netting on side, to allow pollination.
Helps out to a degree. Still bag stuff to prevent fruitfly.

Yep, should ask daley's re bulk netting.
My ideal would be to do a daley's and insect net the whole place, with a native bee hive.
But alas, we do what we can.

I've considered it. Picone's setup is incredible. I wouldn't need that kind of clearance though, maybe ten feet or so.
This might be doable. The thing that will cost the money will be the supports.
