Jaime2 starts with ... Hi I have a pear tree that grew straight out of the compost, so from seed and it's at least 5/6 years old. A beautiful specimen, never had any issues with it but its never flowered.. I have never pruned it and Its the only one I have. Any advice would be most appreciated otherwise it's probably going to be dug up. I'm in Perth.

Julie says... If it is a seedling from a grafted tree it may never flower. Seedlings are always unpredictable. Then again, they are very slow to flower and fruit - you might have to wait another couple of years. Even then, you don't know what you might get - an inferior type or something really good! | About the Author Julie Roleystone WA 16th March 2016 11:37am #UserID: 154 Posts: 1842 View All Julie's Edible Fruit Trees |

Markmelb says... Jaime2 - cut your losses and grow an espalier pear like this - has taken 3 years and have 7 different pears - the photo shows Packham Triumph and Buerre Bosc fruit that are huge and fruiting first time in 3rd Summer - and the main tree which is Buerre Bosc - had to bud graft Bergamot and Corella Feb 2015. Corella didnt like the BB so did a bud graft onto Williams as Corella didnt like grafting to BB. EDIT - The major thing to note is pears need a cross Pollinator so by itself it wont grow anything unless a nearby neighbour has one and you dont know :)
