Pineapple, Banana and Papaya Biology Documents

I ordered a couple of Pineapple (F180) from Daleys and wanted to know a little more about them. Until now, a pineapple was a pineapple ... yummy.

Along the way, I came across a Biology Document for pineapples, from The Office of the Gene Technology Regulator (Australian Department of Health). It was quite informative, and unlike a lot of government, or research documents, it was quite usable for the informed 'grow-it-yourself' boffin. I know there are a couple of people here who would be interested in this sort of thing, so I thought I'd share. With Daleys selling these plants, I'm sure there will be people asking questions about them, down the line.

While I was there, I also noted Biology Documents of Banana and also Papaya, so am also including links to those.

I'm addicted to the mini dwarf pineapples called Pulau. They are the size of a tennisball/baseball.

Those are the best of all imo but not cheap.

Hi Bangkok, your making me hungry for a Pulau!

Does the Pulau have prickly leaves and golden yellow flesh?

My best memories of pineapples have a darker golden yellow flesh and I never took any notice of the leaves before, but I do remember pineapples with prickly leaves. I haven't enjoyed a pineapple for a very long time and put it down to growers and retailers harvesting too early and poor handling/storage. Maybe what I used to enjoy were Queen pineapples (with prickly leaves) and Smooth Cayenne type pineapples have been the ones mostly sold in the stores.

Hmmmm...

I only buy the pulau's peeled and packed..some people do that all day long here on the markets.

They are yellow, for other pineapples the golden/orange color means more sweet/ripe but this one is yellow.

Thailand has supersweet pineapples, just as sweet as the canned ones from Dole. But the mini one is very crispy and has a great flavour. They cost double or triple the price of the common ones, that's how nice they are and also hard to grow i guess or they would be cheaper.

No i'm happy cause it's clean, big portions, real meat, they show the price, can sit in a park, have bins, speak english, and so on...but i'm not a Thai, i'm Dutch.

But fruit in Thailand is much better, very sweet for most of it, except strawberries.

It's hard to find good meat for dinner, even in restaurants. And fishfillet is also very hard to find (without bones, skin, heads, guts).

If you want qualityfood in Thailand you'll pay double the price of Oz...yes streetfood can be cheap but don't look to well what you get or how it's cooked/cleaned..

But japanese food is better in Bangkok than in Tokyo i noticed. Even sushi or sashimi or ramen.

Thailand has great fried rice, fried noodles, fruit, for the rest i cook myself or eat japanese.
