BJ says... Yes. Anything sub 300 chill hours should fruit okay. A few are a bit higher than that and usually do fine. I've got a few 3 year old plants that have fruited okay - the 300 hour chill ones fruited heavier than the sub 300 hour ones this season. I think Spicezee ones will also be okay, as it fruited well this season, very pretty too. Not sure that I'll keep my two plums as I just wont have the space when they get bigger. | About the Author Theposterformerlyknownas Brisbane 13th February 2014 3:53pm #UserID: 3270 Posts: 1552 View All Theposterformerlyknownas's Edible Fruit Trees |

BJ says... No. I've never heard of one producing here, though they sell them at Samford, so maybe one would produce in the frost trap out there. The low chill Royal's are probably the best bet, but they are hard to get - I think only sold in WA? Acerolas crop their heads off under complete neglect though. I've got thousands ready in about two weeks, which will be the heaviest of three crops so far this summer. Not a drop of water has been given to the tree outside of rainfall. | About the Author Theposterformerlyknownas Brisbane 13th February 2014 5:04pm #UserID: 3270 Posts: 1552 View All Theposterformerlyknownas's Edible Fruit Trees |
sternus1 says... Yeah my patch can't hang with the sort of frost that samford gets, even though two aren't very far away. Minnie Royals are supposedly stocked by bunnings at Northlakes, I've never seen them there though. I think I'll have to make do with the sand cherry, hopefully the fruit are decent. I have two acerola which I was hoping would set some fruit but it doesn't look like I'll be getting any yet, still too young I guess. Toughest things I have , hands down, and fast, they are doing well in a spot I doubt anything else I have would survive. | About the Author sternus1 Australia 13th February 2014 6:19pm #UserID: 8314 Posts: 1318 View All sternus1's Edible Fruit Trees |
